“Follow-me” – robots supporting you in everyday life

Robot Leonie following a caregiver

Professor Dr. Matthias Rätsch is a mechatronics technician with a heart for robots. Leonie, KuRT and MoRTy successfully compete in the RoboCup World Championship every year and prove themselves to be everyday helpers.

In his projects, Rätsch shows how closely teaching and research are linked. In cooperation with MetraLabs GmbH, the follow-me function is to be optimized in the ZIM project “AI on the Edge and Deep Learning-based Follow-Me for Service Robots”. It allows the robot to follow a caregiver even in crowds. Rätsch: “In the end, our students, who work with the robots and prepare them for the next competition, also benefit from this.”
